i'm a software engineer who tends to learn things by building them.

i work primarily with Java and backend systems. i like problems where the interesting part isn't just making something work, but understanding why it works the way it does.

lately, that has taken me into inference engines, compilers, performance engineering, distributed systems, and the various layers underneath software that most of us usually get to ignore.

when i don't understand something, i usually build a smaller version of it.

sometimes that turns into a useful project.

sometimes it turns into several weeks of debugging something that absolutely did not need to exist.

i'm generally happier when it's the latter.
